This is a variation of the "feather and fan" stitch pattern. It may look delicate but it's still a warm scarf. Embellish with tassels if you like; I left it off on mine because I love the pointed tips at the ends.
Level: Intermediate
Length: 72 inches; 6 feet
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft [100% acrylic; worsted weight 4ply; 315 yd per 170g skein]; 1 skein each color; Grey
Needles:
1 set of US #11 / 8 mm straight needles
Tapestry needle
Gauge: 16 sts/22 rows = 4 inches in pattern
Pattern Notes:
k2tog = knit two together (decrease); yo = yarn over (increase)
Body:
CO 40 st.
Row 1: k2, *(k2tog) 3 times, (yo, k1) 6 times, (k2tog) 3 times, rep from * to end, k2
Row 2: k2, p to last two stitches, k2
Repeat these two rows until the scarf is 6 feet long, or however long you want it.
BO stitches.
Finishing:
Cut yarn leaving at least 6 inch tail. Sew in tails.

How do you sew the tails? Is that what makes the wavy pattern at the ends?
Asmith -- The tails are woven in like the end of any knitting project - nothing new there. The lace pattern is what draws the fabric that way, making the pointed ends. It just happens :)
Thank you for the pattern. Its really fun to knit and it looks pretty. I am making it as a gift.
This is my 2nd project since learning K2tog and such, so I'm really a beginner trying to advance. When trying this scarf, I'm getting really big holes in the (YO, K1)6x sections. Do you have to change your tension for that part somehow?
To answer Susanh:
As long as the holes are uniformly big, I wouldn't worry about it. If they aren't uniform, or you just want smaller holes, here's a trick i like to use. When you YO onto the right needle, place your finger on the YO while you knit the next stitch. Then tug the stitch a little tighter than you would usually. That should do it :)
Glad you like the scarf!
Thank you for the lovely pattern. It is one that can be knit up relatively quickly for gifts yet still has a delicate, sophisticated appearance.
Beautiful! :o)
Dumb question, is it necessary to block? This would be my first lace project, other than a washcloth.
Yes, definitely block this scarf. It tends to fold in half and curl in if you don't.

Thank you so much for the pattern! My scarf is working up beautifully! I've never blocked a scarf before...I'm a new knitter. I have done some research and have seen several different methods. I would love to know how you blocked your scarf so that my scarf looks like yours when I'm done. Thanks so much and Happy Holidys!
This was my only the 2nd thing I ever knitted. It took me awhile but I did it. It isn't really hard I would just get careless and miss a yarnover. Once I learned about lifelines it wasn't hard at all. I gave it to my daughter for Christmas and she loved it. I will be making it again.
hi, thanks for posting the pattern :) i really like it
this is a really pretty scarf
i'm just a beginner but it is turning out really well
how do you block??
one question...
whenever i start this scarf (about 4 times), pone side is always uneven so it is more full one side and less on the other
there seems to be a complete increase of the stitches, though i am following the pattern
